Hi everyone. Nomad Complex is going to be offline for the foreseeable future.
Nomad Complex uses a proxy-shipping service under the Section 321 Trade Agreement to ship our merchandise. This allows us to bypass the border and deliver products domestically without incurring duties/taxes for our customers. It is a cornerstone of our business operation and is the single driving source of keeping our costs low and mitigating shipping problems. Without it we would not have access to USPS, who ships 90% of our orders.
We've just been informed that the American executive order that eliminate Section 321 has gone into effect abruptly and with almost no notice. Section 321 is a trade agreement that allows free trade between Canada and the USA up to a value of $800. A majority of our customers are based in the USA, which means the majority of orders are going to be affected by this change.
What we know right now; There is now an imposed tariff of up to 10-30% on anything containing Chinese or Hong Kong manufactured goods that has gone into immediate effect. The majority of our clothing merchandise is manufactured and printed in North America while the majority of our accessories are manufactured in Hong Kong. This means that if an order contains $100 worth of Canadian manufactured clothing with a $5 wristband manufactured in Hong Kong, we (Nomad Complex) are now responsible for a tariff adding up to 10-30% of the entire $105 order. While we don't want to be the source of information of what tariffs actually are, we encourage everyone to research how these will affect small businesses from reputable sources. The short answer is, they are bad and stupid.
We also are currently in the process of figuring out what documentation and codes we need to get to our manufacturers in order to clear these items through the border as well. This is a monumental task for our small team and we are scrambling to figure out what exactly the fuck we need to do to continue operating amidst the hellscape being thrust upon small businesses.
We know that things are difficult right now, but we please ask for some patience while we deal with this bombshell. We are working around the clock and will provide updates as much as we can. Right now, confusion and chaos is the clear intent of this administration and we are aware that this current state of our affairs will provide some uncertainty. We are doing our absolute best to figure out how to resume our operations and what that will look like.
IF YOU ARE WAITING FOR A TWO-FACED PRE-ORDER ITEM;
These are going to be completed on February 10th. At this time, we are exploring possible options of how to have these shipped but rest assured you will not be paying anything on top of what you paid at checkout. These are going to incur a 10-30% tariff which we are responsible for, but were purchased at a time when that was not the case, which we will be honoring. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we work to get these out.
